A world leader in the biotechnology industry suffered a failure to their above ground storage tank farm. Virgin and waste solvents overflowed from the tank and entered the ground. The release contaminated soil and groundwater which was located in a drinking water protection zone. Waste alcohols were present in the groundwater which developed a potent elongated plume migrating toward the property boundary.
The Environmental Services Provided:
SAK provided emergency response and comprehensive remediation design services and notified regulators and implemented a rapid assessment and remediation plan. SAK’s assessment included collection and analysis of up to 75 soil samples and the installation of up to 25 monitoring wells. Up to 150 groundwater samples were collected.
SAK’s remediation work included the excavation of 500 tons of contaminated soil and aggressive groundwater treatment via in-situ and ex-situ chemical oxidation. The groundwater treatment system included three 6 inch diameter recovery wells that contained the plume and send groundwater to a treatment tank where hydrogen peroxide was added.
