Decommissioning of Former Electronics Facility
Location: Billerica, MA
Service: Pollution Assessment & Remediation, Facility Decommissioning, Permitting and Compliance
Due to a corporate consolidation, a 250,000 square foot electronic components manufacturing facility required decommissioning and decontamination.
The Environmental Services Provided:
SAK completed the environmental decommissioning which included a multimedia compliance audit that reviewed environmental compliance relative to local, state, and federal regulations and laws which include air emissions, wastewater discharges, storm water management, hazardous waste management, SARA reporting, toxics use reduction, SPCC, tanks, flammable storage, and environmental training requirements. All environmental operating permits were terminated by SAK and final regulatory reporting submissions made. The audit was based on a facility inspection, review of environmental operating permits, and online compliance databases.
SAK designed and managed the decontamination of lead dust throughout the facility. Lead dust contamination was removed from ceiling joists, pipes and other horizontal services, and floors by wet wiping. Contaminated HVAC ducts and fans were removed and disposed as hazardous waste. SAK collected confirmatory wipe samples from building surfaces before “clearing” designated work zones.
