A former retail gasoline station required removal of several underground storage tanks and an oil/water separator in preparation for the sale of the property. The site was located in a groundwater protection zone to a privately owned public water supply well.
The Environmental Services Provided:
SAK completed Massachusetts Contingency Plan (MCP) response actions through Phase V to determine the nature and extent of petroleum contamination from existing and former underground storage tanks.
SAK’s extensive investigations included soil borings, monitoring wells, and groundwater sampling to assess tanks, oil/water separators and septic systems. Remedial actions included the removal of 2 underground storage tanks, removal of an oil water separator and decommissioning of floor drains, and design, installation and operation of a chemical oxidation treatment system to treat groundwater and soil. Two treatment systems were implemented each using hydrogen peroxide.

The property was successfully remediated, achieving a Class A-2 RAO under the MCP. The property was sold for productive commercial use.
