Globally Harmonized System adopted by OSHA

Other Category

Apr 03, 2014

The Globally Harmonized System (GHS) is an international approach to hazard communication, providing agreed criteria for classification of chemical hazards, and a standardized approach to label elements and safety data sheets (SDS).  OSHA has modified the Hazard Communication Standard (HCS) to adopt the GHS and as such employers that are currently subject to HazCom rules must comply with GHS. OSHA is requiring that employees are trained on the new label elements and SDS format by December 1, 2013, while full compliance with the final rule will begin in 2015. More information, including all GHS phase-in deadlines, can be found at OSHA’s web site. Contact SAK Environmental for training and other GHS assistance @ 978-688-7804 x 112.
