Construction Support

SAK Environmental is proud to be part of the Team that led to this ribbon cutting in Lawrence, MA. This was not just another building completed, but a community milestone bringing together affordable housing, and athletic facilities to mentor urban youth. It was a visionary partnership between Lawrence Community Works and SquashBusters (a sports-based youth development program).
SAK managed the environmental transformation of a blighted industrial property into a healthy living environment for the community.
Since 2021, SAK provided services for all phases of environmental management on this project which included due diligence, design investigation, and construction administration to safely mitigate environmental risks that included demolition of a former industrial foundry plant and exporting 20,000 tons of contaminated surplus soil. This major excavation was needed, in part, to accommodate the Squash Busters' athletic facilities which combine exercise, education, and leadership opportunities. The building provides 40-units of affordable housing along with squash courts, a gym, and learning rooms from Squash Busters.
A special shout-out to Meghan Emmert at SAK (on left) who exceptionally managed the project. Also pictured is LCW's project manager Spencer Buchholz, and Eleni Varitimos of MassDevelopment who provided substantial brownfields funding.
